It has increased range and damage and is easier to learn how to use, but requires a small amount of effort to reload. While it uses the same automated catch mechanism as other repeating crossbows, a repeating heavy crossbow's design has significant trade-offs. This large crossbow has an internal chamber that can be loaded with up to five bolts. In other words, all crossbows fire equally fast in Kingmaker/WotR. Although there's no mechanical advantage to using them because Owlcat implemented reloading any crossbow as a free action ergo there's no penalty to using light/heavy crossbows instead of their repeating cousins. There are repeating crossbows in Kingmaker but IIRC they only drop in the BtSL roguelike mode, not the main campaign. There is a hand crossbow proficiency feat but I didn't find any actual hand crossbows. I used Toy Box to poke around and I can't find any repeating crossbows nor exotic proficiency feats for them.
